What’s New About the 2018 VW Passat?

Upgraded Base Engine

In the 2017 model year, the VW Passat came standard with a 1.8-liter turbocharged engine that delivered 170 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2018 model year of this sleek midsize sedan features a standard, turbocharged 2.0-liter TSI engine for 174 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. This upgraded engine also offers an EPA-estimated 36 highway mpg over the previous model’s 34 highway mpg for greater efficiency.

New GT Model

While the GT trim has not yet hit the showroom and its official debut date is still a mystery, Volkswagen announced that the Passat GT will join the 2018 lineup sometime in the near future. The GT will feature a VR6 engine under the hood, delivering 280 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque for heart-racing performance. This trim was also designed with sport suspension tuning, R-Line bumpers and grille, dual exhausts and red brake calipers, along with other GTI-inspired upgrades.

Driver Assistance Features on Base Trim

Previously only available on the upper-level Passat trims, driver assistance features are now an optional feature on the 2.0-liter turbo base trim. Active safety features include: Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning (Lane Assist), Parking Steering Assistant (Park Assist) and Park Distance Control (Park Pilot).
